From the moment you step onto campus, or even log in from afar for online programs, a network of support is designed to ensure your success. Academic advising, in particular, acts as a personalized roadmap, helping students navigate the often-complex terrain of course selection, degree requirements, and career aspirations. For students at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL), this support system is robust and readily accessible, encompassing both on-campus and online programs.

For students embarking on their academic careers, New Student Orientation (NSO) serves as a crucial first step. NSO is designed to immerse new students in all facets of campus life. From learning about UHCL's extensive student resources to receiving tailored guidance from various support offices, the orientation program is designed to lay a solid foundation for academic success. Its a chance to tour the campus, connect with professors, and meet fellow incoming students, fostering a sense of community before classes even begin.

A cornerstone of any successful academic journey is access to information. UHCL's libraries play a vital role in providing resources and services that support research and scholarship. With a vast collection of over 350,000 print volumes and 400,000 ebooks, the libraries cater to a wide range of academic needs. These resources, combined with the expertise of the library staff, empower students to conduct thorough research, explore diverse perspectives, and ultimately excel in their studies. The libraries are not just repositories of information; they are dynamic hubs of intellectual exploration.

Beyond the library, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs acts as a central point of support and leadership for various student-centric departments. This office oversees Campus Recreation and Wellness, Career Services, Counseling Services, the Dean of Students, Health Services, Orientation and New Student Programs, Student Affairs at the Pearland Campus, the Student Assistance Center, and the Student Conference for Research. By coordinating these diverse services, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs ensures that students have access to a comprehensive network of support throughout their academic journey. Whether it's seeking career guidance, accessing mental health services, or engaging in recreational activities, students can find the resources they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Navigating the financial aspects of college is often a significant concern for students. UHCL's Student Business Services is committed to providing support and guidance in this area. Understanding that most students don't pay the full cost of college on their own, UHCL offers various forms of financial aid. In fact, a significant portion of the student body receives some kind of aid package. Students are encouraged to explore the available options and learn more about costs and aid through the university's resources. Furthermore, Student Business Services manages third-party accounts, ensuring that financial obligations are handled efficiently and accurately. The university also offers payment plans for students. Student Business Services offers two types of payment plans. There is a $20 service charge for both of the plans. Additionally, winter and may minis must be paid in full (no payment plans offered).

Transparency and accountability are also prioritized at UHCL. Student feedback is valued and utilized to improve the quality of courses. However, to ensure fairness and validity, student feedback from courses with insufficient response rates (for classes of three or more students) is handled with care. While this feedback is visible to the faculty member, it is automatically excluded from being used for administrative purposes unless the faculty member agrees to it after reviewing the evaluations. This approach safeguards against skewed data and ensures that evaluations are used responsibly to enhance the learning experience.

For students who require official copies of their academic transcripts, the Office of the Registrar is the point of contact. Students can request transcripts, and there is no additional charge for this service. However, transcript requests submitted via fax or mail must include specific information, such as the student's name. To streamline administrative processes and enhance security, UHCL utilizes Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, which includes a delegated access functionality. This feature allows students to authorize another person, such as a parent, to act as their representative and perform certain tasks on their behalf. By delegating access, students can empower others to execute transactions on their behalf, simplifying administrative processes and improving communication.

For faculty and staff, access to university resources is essential for effective teaching and administration. To access various systems and platforms, faculty and staff typically already have a UHCL account. However, for students who require access to specific resources, a Point of Interest (POI) must be submitted by the relevant department to generate a UHCL account. Similarly, to gain access to the Titanium Share, departments must submit a request to the UHCL Support Center. Once the request is processed, access is granted to the UHCL account. These procedures ensure that access to sensitive data and resources is properly controlled and managed.

UHCL strives to provide a comprehensive and supportive academic environment for all students. In addition to the resources mentioned above, students can enhance their degree plans by pursuing a minor. With a wide selection of minors to choose from, UHCL offers opportunities for students to explore diverse interests and broaden their academic horizons. Whether it's delving into a new discipline or developing specialized skills, a minor can complement a student's major and enhance their career prospects. Students are encouraged to explore the available degrees and programs to find the best fit for their academic and professional goals.

Student Business Services is responsible for applying and billing 3rd party accounts. After enrollment cancellation, student business services will begin our billing process. Students at uhcl pay a dedicated fee per semester of $110. Candidate plans of study are emailed to students via their uhcl student email accounts. However, students may obtain a copy by contacting the appropriate academic advisor.

Student can order textbooks online from the uhcl bookstore. A confirmation email is sent when the order has been processed. We will apply the amount to their account.

For students in need of group study spaces, UHCL offers group rooms that can be reserved through Access Services. However, it's important to note that most group rooms require two people to be present at the Access Services desk to check out the room key. Rooms 5 and 25 have a higher occupancy requirement and require three people to be present to check out the key. To ensure fair usage and availability, rooms should not be left unoccupied for more than 30 minutes. These policies help maintain a productive and collaborative study environment for all students.
